The work, presented by Sissi Club gallery of Marseilles, offers a cyclical representation of time, in which reminiscences of faces and landscapes pierce the darkness. Arranged in a spiral as if to compose a galaxy, the figures give rhythm to the canvas and suggest fantastic worlds. Inspired by the film "Silvestre" (1981) by director João César Monteiro.
To award the victory of “Because of Many Suns” award was the jury made up of Swabian Taurisano, collector, Caroline Ciuti, curator of the Award and director of exibart.es and the festival dedicated to video art LOOP, Joseph Awuah-Darko, collector and art connoisseur, e Muriel Enjarlan, director of the FRAC (Fonds Régional d'Art Contemporain) of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, regional public collection of contemporary art financed by the regions, the French Ministry of Culture and the municipalities, with which, after a complex process, Taurisano collection has entered into a partnership.
Statement by Carolina Ciuti, curator of the “Because of Many Suns” award
"Now in its second edition, Because of Many Suns is consolidating itself as an award specifically designed to support emerging artists. One of its peculiarities lies, in fact, in wanting to accompany * vincitor* much beyond the moment of acquisition, through actions such as the donation of the work to a public institution, the dissemination of information relating to the work on social networks and the publication of texts curatorial and in-depth analysis by leading figures in the world of contemporary art. In this sense, the victory of Inès Di Folco fully reflects the spirit of this initiative. It is often difficult for * young * artists to access institutional and/or commercial channels and it is precisely here that Because of Many Suns wants to intervene."
Il “Because of Many Suns” Award was established during the first lockdown of 2020 and its title was conceived by the transdisciplinary artistic collective Apparatus 22, with the aim of reflecting on concepts such as generosity, care and vitality. “Because of Many Suns” therefore refers to the award as a ray of sunshine that nurtures young artistic practices, while claiming the construction of a more conducive environment for the arts. The graphic layout was designed by Apparatus 22 themselves in collaboration with the art-director Otilia Fiastru.
