In local elections in Bavaria, second country German by extension, the Csu it lost its absolute majority, collapsing to 37,7%, 10 points less than in the consultations of 5 years ago. True, the forecasts were even more gloomy (polls spoke of 33%), but the political earthquake is undeniable: before yesterday, the Christian Social party - the Bavarian brother of Angela Merkel's CDU - had always obtained an absolute majority in this region since 1958 (with a single exception in 2008) and in any case it had never fallen below 43% of the votes.
The leader of the CSU Horst Seehofer he said he was "dejected by the result": on the other hand, he added, "we had a clear signal to form a government. We will work to understand where this result comes from. In the next three to four weeks we must concentrate on forming the government”.
Disastrous outcome also for the Spd, the other historical pillar of the German party system. The Social Democrats did not even reach 10%, stopping at 9,5%. Less than half the 21% achieved five years ago. In this case, the result is even worse than the estimates: the polls, in fact, predicted a more contained drop, to 12,5%.

"It is a very bitter defeat for our party," said the general secretary of the SPD, Lars Klingbeil. “We will analyze these results in Bavaria and Berlin. What can already be said is that this is a clear signal to the Berlin government, ”he added, criticizing the“ wrong style ”and too many quarrels in the federal government.
The SPD is thus overtaken by the far-right party AfD (Alternative for Germany), which stood at 10,7%, however less than the 13% expected.
The real winners of the electoral round are the Verdi, which reached 17,8%: the result is slightly lower than expected (19%), but still represents almost double the 9% recorded in 2013.
