Bank of Italy, green light from the Government for appointments to the Directory

Albeit with the reservations of the League, the Council of Ministers approves, after pressure from the Quirinale, the new appointments at the top of the Bank of Italy and IVASS

Bank of Italy, green light from the Government for appointments to the Directory

Lega and Cinque Stelle give the green light to the appointments of the Bank of Italy and Ivass. The pressing of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, has achieved the goal. After a thousand controversies and endless procrastination, yesterday evening the Council of Ministers expressed a favorable opinion on the appointments proposed by the Superior Council of the Bank of Italy for the new heads of the Via Nazionale institution. Only the League has expressed reservations for external appointments, namely those of Franco and Perrazzelli.

This avoided paralyzing the Bank of Italy and consequently IVASS. In the coming days, the Head of State will sign the decree on the appointments and then the new bodies will be at work before the Assembly at the end of May.

The novelties of the appointments concern the promotion of Fabio Panetta to new General Manager after the noble gesture of the outgoing General Manager, Salvatore Rossi, who has renounced to reapply to unblock the impasse. As usual, the new General Manager also becomes president of IVASS, the body that supervises insurance.

New entrants to the Bank of Italy top management, in the role of Deputy General Managers alongside the reconfirmed Luigi Federico Signorini, are the former State General Accountant, Daniele Franco, and Alessandra Perazzelli, former number one of Barclays Italia, on whom the criticisms had focused of the League considering it close to the Pd.
