Bank of Italy: ok to Visco from the Superior Council

Soon the Council of Ministers, then the President of the Republic will confirm Visco for another six years through a special decree.

(Teleborsa) - Decisive hours for the appointment of the governor of the Bank of Italy, with Ignazio Visco, who is moving towards reappointment, after the thirteen members of the Superior Council (personalities with experience in the business world, freelance professionals and university professors) expressed a favorable opinion on the name proposed by Prime Minister Gentiloni.

The Council's opinion is necessary, but not binding, before the appointment by decree by the President of the Republic.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni sent Bank of Italy the letter in which he started the procedure for appointing the new governor, indicating Visco.

In less than half an hour, the meeting of the Council of Ministers will begin, which will have to decide on the name to be sent to the Head of State, who is responsible for the nomination decree.

The banker should therefore remain at the helm of Via Nazionale for another six years, with a second term that still begins in the sign of high tension, triggered by the Pd motion in Parliament which called for "discontinuity" in the choice of governor. A choice, that of Gentiloni, which closes a long trail of controversies.
