No one has ever questioned the technical competence of the new Governor of Bank of Italy, Fabio Panetta, but what we expected from him was a clear demonstration of independence towards the Meloni government, considering that the Prime Minister has never hidden her sympathies for him to the point that she would have wanted him as Minister of Economy. The fact that Panetta has never criticized the failure to join the Month of the Government, the only one among the EU countries, had made many turn up their noses. But now there is indisputable proof of the autonomy of the Bank of Italy edition Panetta and it is represented by the critical observations on the budget policy of the Government expressed by leading figures of the central bank during the parliamentary hearings of the last few days. Above all, the risks that, according to Via Nazionale, the sustainability of the pension system runs speak clearly and make it clear that the central bank is not afraid to express doubts and criticisms, even if the prime minister can take offence. A few days earlier, the Director General of the Bank of Italy, Luigi Federico Signorini, had the opportunity to denounce the delays in the implementation of the Pnrr. Good. Panetta made it perfectly clear that the autonomy of the Bank of Italy is a primary asset that must be defended at all costs and that must be perceived by public opinion, as in the tradition of Via Nazionale. He deserves applause.
Bankitalia and Panetta: the Government's anger over Via Nazionale's criticisms of GDP and accounts is proof of the Governor's autonomy
Without sparing criticism of the Government's budget policy, the Bank of Italy has demonstrated the full autonomy with which Governor Panetta leads it
