Cars: Porsche says goodbye to diesel and focuses everything on the hybrid

Porsche will no longer produce diesel cars. This was officially announced by the CEO of the German car manufacturer, Oliver Blume.

“Ours will be a diesel-free future“, says the managing director of the Stuttgart company through an official press release.

Porche thus joins other major global car manufacturers, like FCA, Volvo and Nissan, which recently confirmed their intention to abandon the production of diesel vehicles.

“We are not demonizing diesel,” explains Blume, “which will indeed remain an important technology in terms of propulsion. But for us, who are manufacturers of sports cars, it has always played a secondary role. Naturally, we will continue to look after customers who have bought diesel cars from us, with the respect and professionalism they expect from us."

Since February 2018, Porsche already had suspended the production of of diesel Macan, Cayenne and Panamera, due to the numerous problems that arose following the Dieselgate. Today comes the official and definitive farewell which seems to go in parallel with a greater push towards hybrid cars.

Porsche has in fact confirmed the investment of over six billion euros in green mobility by 2022, while as early as next year the car manufacturer will put its first zero-emission sports car on the market, the Taycan. Finally, from 2025, every Porsche car, hybrid or electric, will be equipped with a battery powertrain.
