Assopopolari heads down against the reform decree: "It must decay"

The association of cooperative banks heads down against Renzi's reform: "Unjustified and unjustifiable decree" - "We will leave no stone unturned to bring it down" and defend the identity of cooperative banks" - Yes to the merger process

The National Association of Cooperative Banks rails against the decree reforming the sector desired by the Renzi government, defining it in a harsh press release as a measure "pregnant with negative consequences on national savings and credit for households, small and medium-sized enterprises, for a country, like ours, without long-term investors in banking companies and, last but not least, unjustified and unjustifiable”.

"There must not be - continues Assopopolari's note - an economic policy aimed exclusively at transferring the ownership of a significant part of the Italian banking system to the large international banks".

The declared objective of the association is that "the Legislative Decree disappears and the legal system continues to allow all cooperative banks to maintain their identity". In the event that this happens, the note explains, "The popular banks will continue with greater urgency and determination to pursue a further evolution of their cooperative system and to continue a process of concentration, which they have demonstrated their ability to practice in the past to a greater extent than to the rest of the system".
