In Italy, the average price of the motor liability policies. According to the latest survey by the Insurance Supervisory Institute (IVASS), in the second quarter of the year the value stood at 360 €, 23 less than the same period in 2020 (-5,9%). The trend that began between April and June of last year is therefore confirmed, when the decline was 5,4%, a clear acceleration compared to the same quarter of 2019 (-1,5%).
Furthermore, again in relation to the second quarter of 2021, IVASS specifies that 50% of policyholders pay less than 324 euros and 10% less than 193 euros.
If one narrows the gaze from the national to the local perspective, some particularly marked declines in the provinces of the Center-South stand out: Crotone -9,3% Rome -8,4% Palermo -8,3% Vibo Valentia -8,2% Catania e Prato -8,1%.
This trend leads to reduce territorial differences, usually very marked when it comes to motor liability prices. Again from the IVASS survey it emerges that the premium differential between Naples e Aosta – respectively the most expensive and cheapest province in the country – drops by 2,6% on an annual basis, to 211 euros.
20,8% of the policies stipulated in the second quarter of 2021 envisage a reduction in the premium linked to black box, although the black box penetration rate still fell by 1,2% year-on-year. The greatest diffusion of the black box is in the provinces with motor liability prices higher than the market average.
The award, underlines IVASS again, is strongly influenced by the so-called "previous accidents”: policyholders who have caused one or more accidents in the last five years pay an almost double motor liability price (675 euros) compared to policyholders with an immaculate certificate of risk (346 euros).
Finally, policyholders without accidents benefited more from the generalized reduction in premiums started in 2014: -26,7% against -9,9% of policyholders who caused accidents.
