Art: Christo's floating bridge arrives on Lake Iseo

The art of Christo arrives in Italy. The Bulgarian artist, known for his land art works, will hit the area like a cyclone Lake Iseo, where, for two weeks from 18 June to 3 July, a 3-kilometre floating walkway will be unrolled between Sulzano and Montisola, the islet in the center of the lake.

The walkway,"The floating piers“, will be accessible to visitors day and night for the entire duration of the exhibition, and will be made up of 200 floating blocks produced by Artigiana Stampi of Manerbio (Brescia), which has been working tirelessly on their construction for months.

For the area it is a great artistic opportunity, but also an economic one: 15 visitors are expected in the 500 days in which the work will be "exhibited", so much so that, already today, in the lake area it is very difficult to find a room in that period. The work, which is totally borne by the artist for a cost of 15 million euros, will employ 750 people, also calculating related industries.

In addition to all this there is visibility on a global scale, and the possibility, for relatively little-known places, to open up to international tourism, from Canada, the USA and Japan.
