ArcelorMittal: 2-hour strike on 25 November

ArcelorMittal workers on strike on 25 November. Fim, Fiom and Uilm have proclaimed a two-hour strike for next Wednesday in all the Italian plants of the French-Indian company. Expected controls, initiatives and connections from the various plants with an online press conference of the general secretaries of the three unions.

In parallel, the trade unions have requested an urgent hearing from the competent parliamentary commissions of the Chamber and Senate and a meeting with the national secretariats of the parties.

The decision to call the strike was made during the videoconference of the Fim Fiom Uilm National Coordination of the Arcelor Mittal Italia Group. The purpose of the initiative is to protest against “ArcelorMittal's plant management” which "since the signing of the agreement on 6 September 2018 has gradually worsened until it has become unsustainable".

In fact, the coordination deems the launch of an ordinary and extraordinary maintenance plan of the plants "impossible", but also the restoration of the correct industrial relations now defined as "non-existent", the "appropriate" use and the review of the social shock absorbers also in the light of the entry of the State of the capital, the presentation of an environmental and industrial plan, the definition of a certain path for the reintegration of workers in extraordinary administration and clarity in the management of contracts.

"The continuous declarations of politics, institutions and territorial parties, in particular those of Puglia on the overcoming of the hot area, are discordant with those of the Government, and therefore the need must be definitively clarified, for one establishment such as the one in Taranto, the maintenance of the hot area made environmentally friendly with the use of the best available technologies. The government clarify with unambiguous statements and bait out of ambiguity about the future of the largest Italian steel group", explain the metalworking acronyms who also ask for a new meeting with the competent ministers (Patuanelli, Gualtieri and Catalfo) to table a discussion “on the future of the former ILVA confirming the strategic nature of the ArcelorMittal group and the iron and steel sector in the country but guaranteeing an eco-sustainable production process and safeguarding all employment".
