Cold shower for all those who until today praised the excellent quality-price ratio of Amazon's Prime service. The US e-commerce giant has informed all its Italian customers of the increase in the annual subscription from the original €19.90 to the new price of €36. This is a considerable increase, almost double the previous amount.
The email that subscribed users received in the morning has the subject "Important change to your subscription". The new rate will take effect from April 4 for new subscribers and, "to give notice of the change with adequate advance" - reads the Amazon note - from May 4 for existing customers. On social networks, users have begun to show their dissent, because the notice does not appear to have arrived "adequately in advance".
For the most loyal customers - those to whom the renewal would fall before the date of May 4th - another year is foreseen, in case of renewal by that date, at the price of 19.90 euros.
Let's be clear, this is about three euros more per month, not an exorbitant figure, but still significant. Amazon Prime allows you to receive all items purchased on the e-commerce platform within two to three days. A sort of privileged channel.
The increase will not change the conditions of the subscription: automatic renewal, unlimited free deliveries, unlimited shipments, and the possibility of using the Prime Video service, Netflix's budding rival.
There is also another novelty: the Amazon board has produced a new offer. It is a monthly formula of 4,99 euros, never provided for by previous subscriptions.
In the United States, the Prime subscription costs 99 dollars a year, with monthly plans at 12,99, but the services offered are many more than those provided by the Italian plan.
