Time is getting longer the birth of the new Alitalia. The implementing decree that will serve to set up the newco should have been the focus of a meeting between the ministers of Economy, Economic Development, Transport and Employment initially scheduled for 26 August. However, the appointment has been postponed, perhaps to next week, but the competent ministries reassure: the solution would be (the conditional is a must) imminent.
So the wait continues to find out the fate of the company, now in extraordinary administration. The August decree allocated 20 million euros for the newco. Once the new company is born, we will move on to the preparation of the new business plan, another fundamental stage through which, numbers in hand, it will finally be possible to understand what and how the new company will be: which routes it will cover, how many planes it will have and above all what the future of its employees will be. According to rumors published by The Sun 24 hours, we would be thinking about a corporate structure divided into business lines, separating the core part from the handling and maintenance activities.
Without forgetting the management. The long-awaited decree should in fact also contain the official appointments of new top management with Francesco Caio who will occupy the chair of president and Fabio Lazzerini that of vice president. Within 30 days of taking office, it will be up to them to take care of the industrial plan and structural product strategies. The document will then have to be examined by the European Union.
In the meantime it seems to be regaining strength the duel between Lufthansa and Delta, both interested in the Italian company, but this time with a view to an alliance. According to Milano Finanza, the German carrier has gained ground in recent days. Delta, for its part, however, does not seem willing to give in and faced with the possibility that the new Alitalia leaves the Skyteam alliance (of which Delta Air Lines is the leader) and enters the Star Alliance network, it would have said it was ready to offer important slots on the Atlantic routes to North and Central America.
