February 25 will be a day of fire for Italian travelers due to a series of local strikes by air traffic controllers and the air transport sector which risk compromising travel throughout Italy. The first effects of the protests can already be seen: Alitalia has canceled 350 flights.
AIRCRAFT: FEBRUARY 25 STRIKE: ALL THE INFORMATION
Enav, the company that manages air transport in Italy, announces that they are scheduled for Tuesday 25 February 10 local strikes of 24 hours which will involve the air traffic controllers of:
- Rome Area Control Center – organized by FILT-CGIL, FIT-CISL, Uiltrasporti, UGL-TA, UNICA;
- Brindisi Area Control Center – organized by Uiltrasporti, UGL-TA and FILT-CGIL, FIT-CISL, UNICA;
- Ancona Falconara Airport – organized by UGL-TA and UNICA;
- Bari Airport – organized by FILT-CGIL, FIT-CISL and UNICA;
- Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport – organized by UGL-TA;
- Catania Airport – organized by UGL-TA and UNICA;
- Ciampino Airport – organized by Uiltrasporti, UGL-TA, UNICA and FIT-CISL;
- Pescara Airport – organized by UGL-TA;
- Venice Tessera Airport – organized by FIT-CISL, UGL-TA and UNICA.
- Verona Airport – organized by UNICA.
The following local strikes are also foreseen in the time slot 13.00-17.00:
- Alghero Airport – organized by UNICA;
- Bari Airport – organized by UGL-TA;
- Lamezia Terme Airport – organized by FIT-CISL, UGL-TA and UNICA.
ALITALIA: FLIGHTS CANCELLED
Alitalia has canceled 350 flights, both domestic and international. Some of the connections scheduled for the evening of 24 and in the early morning of 26 February have also been cancelled. Those planning a flight for February 25 will be able to consult the list of canceled flights for that day, while another list has been made available for on 24 and 26 February.
It will be respected the warranty ranges required by law: from 7:00 to 10:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00.
“To limit the inconvenience of passengers, Alitalia has activated an extraordinary plan which provides the use of larger aircraft on domestic and international routes, with the aim of rebooking travelers involved in cancellations on the first available flights of the day: more than half of the passengers are expected to be able to travel on the same day of February 25th”, communicates the company.
"Passengers involved in the cancellations - Alitalia explains - can check which flight they have been rebooked on by connecting to the Alitalia website and entering, in the 'MY FLIGHTS' section on the home page, their 'Name', 'Surname' and the 'Code of Booking".
The possibility of changing the booking without penalties or requesting a refund of the ticket (only in the event that the flight has been canceled or has been delayed by more than 5 hours) is foreseen until 2 March.
