Pantelleria airport, weather service passes to ENAV

From today, as part of the Transit Plan from military airports to civil aviation, coordinated by ENAC as civil aviation authority, ENAV, the company that manages civil air traffic in Italy, has taken over the supply of the service weather report on Pantelleria airport, until now provided by the Air Force.

The transit was agreed by a specific technical table between ENAC, the Armed Forces and ENAV following the change of status of the Sicilian airport from military to civilian which took place in 2016. The methods and timing that led to this result were coordinated by ENAC through the drafting of a specific Operational Plan shared and signed by the Air Force, ENAV and ENAC and with the contribution of the Defense Administration for all logistical-state property aspects.

All the activities concluded today with the signing of the necessary Conventions by the Administrations involved, confirming the high level of cooperation of the various actors, both in the civil and military sectors.

The passage of the weather services took place in complete safety and without interruption, so as not to generate any repercussions on the air traffic of the airport, also thanks to a training activity of the ENAV weather staff, to which the Air Force, carried out in recent months.

The transit of Pantelleria is part of the reorganization activities that the Armed Forces has been implementing over the years aimed at optimizing the resources available. This is the seventh change in the provision of the meteorological service in about five years after the airports of Ciampino, Verona, Treviso, Brindisi, Rimini and Cagliari.
