The air transport strike scheduled for Tuesday 25 February has been postponed a date to be determined by the Guarantee Commission on strikes. This was communicated by the Filt Cisl, trade union of the sector, through a note.
The commission that has the task of supervising the correct implementation of the exercise of the right to strike in the so-called essential public services has addressed to all "a firm invitation to no collective abstentions are made between 25 February and 31 March 2020 in order to avoid further burden to the Institutions involved in the activity of prevention and containment of the spread of the virus."
At the basis of the decision there is in fact the spread of the coronavirus which is causing many inconveniences in the regions of Northern Italy and which has caused 229 infections and 6 deaths.
For on February 25, 13 local strikes were planned -10 of 24 hours and 3 of four hours - which should have involved flight controllers and air transport personnel, putting numerous flights at risk. Alitalia had already canceled 350 scheduled in the hours between the evening of Monday 24 February and the morning of 26 February.
The protests had been proclaimed by trade associations in order to protest against the "serious crisis that is raging in the sector and the proliferation of situations of serious industrial hardship”, among which the uncertainty that continues to hover over the future of Alitalia and the liquidation of Air Italy. established on February 11 by Alisarda, owner of 51% of the capital of the former Meridiana, and Qatar Airways, in possession of the remaining 49 percent. Only in the latter case are they 1.200 jobs at risk between Olbia, Air Italy headquarters, and Milan Malpensa, where the company has its operational base.
