Goodbye to Marcello De Cecco, brilliant economist and often out of the box, who passed away yesterday at the age of 78. Born in Lanciano, he graduated in Law in Parma and in Economics in Cambridge and has taught in numerous national and international universities (Norwich, Siena, Florence, Rome). He was also professor of history of finance and money at the Scuola Normale in Pisa and collaborated with the Bank of Italy and the International Monetary Fund.
Of multifaceted interests, De Cecco has often dealt with problems of theory, politics and monetary and financial history as well as with the functioning of the markets. In addition to numerous publications ("But what is this crisis. Italy, Europe and the second globalization" was his last book, published by Donzelli in 2013), De Cecco was also a witty commentator, not without irony and civil passion: ten years of his collaboration with the economic insert of "La Repubblica", "Affari&Finanza".
