Balsamic Vinegar of Modena: for Germany Cremonini uber alles

After carrying out a comparative analysis of 19 balsamic vinegars of various price ranges, Stiftung Warentest, the authoritative German consumer protection organization, awarded the Oscar of excellence to the Balsamic Vinegar of Modena IGP "5 Grappoli invecchiato" of the Giuseppe Cremonini Acetaia of Spilamberto (MO).

The tests were carried out by a panel of five experts who described the visual, olfactory and taste aspects, as well as the mouthfeel and aftertaste of the vinegars. The tasting took place with a dilution of 1:10, 1:5 and finally in purity. The appearance of vinegars has only been recorded in its pure state. Each taster tasted the products anonymously several times and under the same conditions.

The results of the survey appeared in the magazine Test, and are accompanied by a detailed table of all the evaluations. By assigning the "gold" to the Balsamic Vinegar of Modena IGP "5 Grappoli invecchiato" from the Giuseppe Cremonini vinegar factory, the judges exalted its qualities as particularly full-bodied, aromatic, with well-balanced acidity and sweetness, a high percentage of 'grapes with a long period of maturation, with a velvety texture, a high density (equal to 1,33 g/l), a 73% cooked grape must and aged in barriques for at least 3 years.

The important affirmation for the Spilimbergo company comes in the aftermath of a fundamental sentence with which the German Federal Supreme Court confirmed the full protection of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena IGP in Germany. A pronouncement that definitively canceled the appeal ruling with which the Karlsruhe Court in 2017 had denied the protection of the term 'balsamic' in Germany. Paolo De Castro, S&D coordinator at the Agriculture Committee of the European Parliament commented with this sentence – the High Court refers to the sender the attempt to authorize balsamic vinegar 'made in Germany' or in any other EU country, which would usurp one of our the most loved and well-known Italian excellences in the world”. And the Commissioner for Agriculture himself, Janusz Wojciechowski, had clarified that the geographical indication 'Aceto Balsamico di Modena Igp' is not only protected as a whole, but also against any possible evocation that could mislead European consumers.

A double affirmation therefore both for the balsamic vinegar of Modena as a product of Made in Italy excellence, and for Acetaia Cremonini which obtains an authoritative certificate.

Acetaia Giuseppe Cremonini is a new generation company that rises within an agricultural estate of 40.000 m2, mostly cultivated with Lambrusco Grasparossa IGT and Trebbiano DOC vineyards, typical grapes of the area used for the renowned Balsamic Vinegar Traditional of Modena DOP. The plant, designed and built based on cutting-edge process technologies to combine tradition, quality and efficiency, can be defined as a reference model for the entire sector. Next to the modern establishment stands the traditional family vinegar factory.

Courage, passion and expectation: these are the values on which Giuseppe Cremonini built the vinegar factory that bears his name. These values are now interpreted by their children Angelo, Camillo and Elisabetta and can be found in all the products. Cremonini, a leading company in the packaging and marketing of edible oils and condiments, distributed in more than 120 countries worldwide.
