La digital growth requires ever-increasing infrastructure, computing power, and connectivity. To support this evolution by reducing environmental impact, Tim presented the new Climate Transition Plana, a strategic path that integrates ESG objectives, available technologies and interventions already planned in the Group's Industrial Plan.
The plan aims to define a roadmap for progressively reducing emissions by 2030, 2040, and 2050, addressing TIM's main sources of environmental impact in Italy and Brazil. The supply chain, which accounts for over 90% of the Group's overall carbon footprint, plays a key role.
Tim focuses on efficiency to reduce environmental impact
The actions envisaged in the Climate Transition Plan primarily concern infrastructure efficiency, the use of more sustainable technologies, maintaining energy supplies from renewable sources, and the progressive alignment of the supply chain with TIM's ESG objectives.
Among the interventions already planned are: accelerating the migration to 5G, which allows to reduce energy consumption per unit of traffic transported, and data center modernization with more advanced systems for cooling and energy management.
To support this path, Tim plans investments of 540 million euros, already included in the Group's industrial roadmap.
Labriola: "We will support digital growth by reducing our emissions."
"Cloud computing and artificial intelligence are driving demand for connectivity and computing power at an unprecedented rate. We can't ignore this. With our Climate Transition Plan, we've charted a course to reduce our emissions, supporting the growth of digital. We'll streamline processes and infrastructure to consume less, and we'll adopt technologies with lower environmental impact. The more the system can create the economic conditions to support this challenge, the more ambitious the results we'll be able to achieve," he stated. Peter Labriola, CEO of Tim.
An evolving plan to follow innovation
The Climate Transition Plan will be submitted to periodic monitoring and may be updated based on technological, industrial, and regulatory developments, with the aim of keeping targets consistent with the Group's development and available solutions.
Pending the definition of the new Industrial PlanTIM also confirms its ESG objectives related to gender equality and advanced digital solutions. The Climate Transition Plan, approved by TIM's Board of Directors, is available along with the Group's ESG targets in the Sustainability section of the TIM website.
