With Dishcovery comes the multi-language digital menu

The startup has devised a system for downloading the menus of participating restaurants (currently Autogrill and RED, for example) in the desired language, via QR Code - The translation is highly reliable and the service also includes descriptions of ingredients and advice for pairings.

Italian cuisine is known to be one of the most popular in the world. For its flavors, for its variety, and also for the quality of its raw materials. However, foreign tourists who sit in Italian restaurants have a problem: the language. In fact, it is not frequent, often not even in tourist resorts, to find menus translated into English or other languages, or waiters able to speak them fluently. To be precise, the lack of translated menus (and correctly…) it is the biggest problem for 52% of foreign tourists who come to taste Made in Italy food and wine: that is, for around 50 million people, to whom 2018 million meals were served in 400 alone.

To overcome this barrier, and above all to allow oriental tourists (those who have more difficulty understanding and those whose presence in Italy has grown more in recent years) to better understand and enjoy our local delicacies, the app has arrived Dishcovery. In reality, thanks to the system created by the startup awarded in 2018 by the Politecnico di Milano as Top Travel Startup, and which in 2019 closed a 121.000 euro equity crowdfunding campaign, to access the translated menu and all the other services you don't even need to download the application, just read the QR Code on the menu with your smartphone restaurants that are already participating (at the moment, for example, all those of the Autogrill and RED circuit).

Once you enter the Dishcovery "digital menu", whose team is made up of experts in food and wine and above all in translations, in particular from Chinese (only specialized mother-tongue translators are used and ISO certified processes are applied), an agile and intuitive screen opens That in addition to the translation, it also offers the description of ingredients, dishes, recommended pairings, allergens and more. An opportunity in reality especially for restaurateurs, who may require a more professional translation service than the very often approximate home-made one, with a free 30-day trial to get started. After that, the service would cost 189 euros a year, with the possibility of periodically receiving a report from Dishcovery on the nationalities most present in the restaurant and their culinary preferences. Technology at the service of the kitchen: to understand each other better, and also to sell more
