Of the total figure of 11 million Volkswagen cars with the illegal software, 2,8 million are in Germany. This was declared by the Minister of Transport, Alexander Dobrindt, during a hearing held today in the Bundestag. The scandal of the automaker originally from Wolfsburg also reaches the homeland.

In the aftermath of the scandal, Volkswagen said around 11 million vehicles were sold worldwide with the souped up engine. Today from Germany comes the estimate of illegal cars in the country. Minister Dobrindt reiterated that “land manipulations by Volkswagen are undoubtedly unacceptable and illegal”. However, the offending models and the breakdown by region are not yet known.

Meanwhile Auto Bild, the newspaper that yesterday accused BMW of irregularities, today retracted everything after the German company strongly denied any accusation. Even Daimler hastened to reject any charge: “A fake device, a function that reduces emissions during tests in an illegitimate way – reads a company statement – has never been used and will never be used by Daimler. This applies to both diesel engines and petrol engines.”
