The entirely optical fiber network, in FTTH (Fiber To The Home) mode, is the infrastructure capable of guaranteeing the best performance on the market, and now, thanks to the intervention of Open Fiber and Vodafone, it will be available also in the municipality of Casalecchio di Reno. The company led by Elisabetta Ripa has in fact completed the wiring of the first 4 real estate units in the city, who can thus already benefit from the innovative services enabled by ultra-broadband. Meanwhile, thanks to Open Fiber's investment of over 4 million euros, work is continuing to reach the total 12 homes envisaged in the plan with ultra-fast fibre.
Open Fibre, 50% owned by Enel and 50% by Cassa depositi e prestiti, is cabling four municipalities in the Bologna metropolitan area – Casalecchio di Reno, Castel Maggiore, Castenaso and San Lazzaro di Savena – bringing a network infrastructure directly inside the real estate units that supports connection speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second . The total investment in the four hinterland municipalities is approximately 12 million euros, and more than 20 kilometers of optical fiber will be laid.
Open Fiber's goal is to create a network that is as pervasive and efficient as possible, which favors the recovery of competitiveness of the "country system" and, in particular, the evolution towards “Industry 4.0”. The new infrastructure will enable numerous innovative services for institutions, citizens and businesses in the municipality of Casalecchio di Reno, which will extend to areas such as smart working, online streaming of HD content, e-learning, cloud computing, home automation , as well as applications for land management, from video surveillance to systems for controlling pollution levels.
Vodafone, according to the note issued jointly with Open Fiber, is the company that was the first to market Open Fiber fiber services for the municipality of Casalecchio di Reno: "Other partner operators of ours will join Vodafone in the coming months".
