Vodafone Italy: revenues improve, Ebitda returns to growth

Vodafone Italia's half-year report still records a year-on-year drop in revenues, but an improvement compared to the half-year ended in March 2015 – Vodafone's fiber service is available in 136 Italian cities and 4G coverage has already reached 91% of the population .

Vodafone Italy: revenues improve, Ebitda returns to growth

Vodafone Italy closed the six months ended September 30, 2015 with revenues from services equal to 2.575 million euros, with an organic decrease of 2% year on year, but an improvement compared to the six months of the previous year (September 2014: -13,6%; March 2015: -6,2%). The financial performance of the half year was mainly driven by theincrease in average revenue per customer in the mobile segment (ARPU), +4% compared to the same period of the previous year, and by the continuous growth of the fixed network.

Increase data consumption (+55%), driven by the increase in the number of smartphones on the Vodafone network to 11,7 million (+15%) and by the expansion of the 4G customer base to 4 million. Fixed network revenues amounted to 417 million euros (+4%), with an 8% growth in broadband revenues. Fixed broadband customers grew by 9% to 1,9 million, out of a total of 2,3 million on the fixed network.

In the semester a third of new customers have chosen Vodafone's fiber services. EBITDA (Gross Operating Margin) returned to growth by 2,3% year on year and stood at 1.001 million euro, equal to 34,1% of total revenues. The Spring investment plan of 3,6 billion over two years for the development of the 4G and Fiber network is proceeding ahead of schedule. As of September 30 the 4G coverage has already reached 91% of the population (5.400 municipalities, of which 600 in 4G+), confirming the leadership of 4G coverage in Italy.

One year after the launch of the plan for the construction of Vodafone fiber with Fiber to the Cabinet (FttC) technology, Vodafone is active in 91 Italian cities, while in Milan, Bologna and Turin it offers the Fiber service with Fiber to the Home (FttH) technology at 300 Mbps, for a total of 2,2 million households reached (doubled in the last 6 months). The services in fiber are available in 136 cities, including also the regulated wholesale offer.

In the first half Vodafone also launched the program called 'We CARE' which intends to consolidate and enhance the relationship of trust with customers, through a series of concrete actions, in the areas of connectivity, transparency, recognition of customer loyalty, and accessibility and effectiveness of the service. The initiatives already carried out include: Satisfied or Reimbursed on the 4G network, Satisfied or Reimbursed on Digital Services, free navigation days offered regularly to all customers, direct line to the call center in Vodafone stores. The My Vodafone application, together with the m-site, now has over 30 million visits a month.
