Naples is a candidate as an international showcase of Italian quality wine. At a time when the wine product with 5,6 billion exports in 2016 represents the pinnacle of excellence for the turnover and the image of one of the most representative sectors of Made in Italy, VitignoItalia, Wine salon and of the Italian wine-growing territories which will be held on 21, 22 and 23 May next a Naples, in the prestigious headquarters of Castel dell'Ovo aims with an edition with a strong international imprint to focus the attention of international buyers on our traditional wine-growing territories, on small producers, on native vines.
A sector in which there is still much to discover and invest in. According to a research carried out by Nomisma-Wine Monitor which analyzed the behavior of consumption of wine in a representative sample of the Italian population over 18 between purchase channels, motivations, prices and selection criteria for Italian consumers, wines from native vines are the undisputed protagonists of the national winemaking future, identified by 39% of those interviewed as the dominant consumption trend .
According to the data of the study, in fact, 36% of consumers make their purchase mainly on the basis of origin of the wines, paying attention to the specific production region (26%) and nationality (10%). And while 1 Italian out of 5 declares himself willing to explore new territories and wines thanks to promotions that wink at the wallet, the Word of mouth remains the best weapon of mass dissemination.
Territoriality, experience and sustainability therefore become watchwords for the future development of this already well-established sector, leaving room for great economic profitability and employment of the workforce.
With these premises, "VitignoItalia" is preparing to open an interesting window on the territory with a busy program of meetings, tastings, presentations e workshop that will enliven the three days of the event. Over 200 companies present, around 1000 labels for tasting.
VitignoItalia will experience many moments, not least the one linked to the business aspect and which especially in recent years has become one of the winning cards of the Neapolitan event Colette "We will host a large group of international buyers - underlines Maurizio Teti director of Vitignoitalia - coming from as many as 17 villages. This is to offer participating companies the opportunity to meet representatives of many markets from the classic European ones such as the United Kingdom and Ireland and Austria to those of the north of the continent, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.
We have also paid particular attention to growing realities such as Latvia, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary but also to those further afield but which show great attention to Italian wine such as Israel, Lebanon, Vietnam and Singapore. Let's also say that for 3 days Naples will welcome professionals who determine the wine market in their countries.
This meeting-comparison has become an added value for the event as it allows companies to travel foreign commercial roads that are still distant and often far from their promotion possibilities. A plus for VitignoItalia, a great opportunity for our companies”.
This year the event is enriched by an important novelty: the first edition of the "Naples wine Challenge” a wine competition which differs from all the others due to its characteristics. Meanwhile, for the composition of the Jury made up of critics, buyers and journalists, a melting-pot capable of expressing the different sensitivities of the tastes in the field today and therefore able to fully reflect the tastes of the consumer public.
He was called to preside over it Daniele Cernilli a name that represents an absolute guarantee also at an international level as regards wine criticism while the technical coordination of the jury has been entrusted to Adele Elisabetta Granieri.
To clarify the quality of the competing wines, the prizes have been drastically reduced. No longer the usual plethora of awards and certificates, but only 5 prizes, one for each category in the competition: reds, whites, rosés, sparkling wines, sweet wines. Another important novelty is represented by the fact that after the first elimination phase conducted strictly blindly, the fifty finalist labels, i.e. ten for each category, will be tasted again during a public session broadcast in live streaming, the final thus takes on the value of a sort of unprecedented wine glasnost, guaranteeing maximum transparency in the final decision.
“Continue dealing with competitions and people in the sector, as I do, serves to understand – says Daniele Cernilli – how important the credibility of judges and competitions is and for this reason we have decided to be a transversal jury, with different representatives from different guides and with people who taste the wine in a different way, technically but also emotionally, for a transparent final decision".
“The goal – he explains Luciano Pignataro, project manager - beyond testing an absolutely innovative format both for the characteristics of the jury and for the transparency linked to the live broadcast, it is to give value to a competition that has always gone into the background compared to the event that contains it a bit like it also happens in other cases. With the Napoli wine Challenge we believe we can achieve the aim of making the competition a decisive element of the event”.
