The consumer price index in the United States increased by 0,4% in August. The Labor Department made the announcement today. The core index, which excludes food and energy prices, rose 0,2%. Analysts' forecasts had indicated a rise of 0,2% for both indices. On an annual basis, the overall index grew by 3,8%; the core one by 2%, marking the largest increase since November 2008.

In August, energy prices rose by 1,2%, against the 2,8% increase recorded in July, while petrol prices grew by 1,9%, marking a slowdown compared to the +4,7 % of previous month. 0,5% increase in food prices. The government also reported that weekly wages fell by 0,8% in August.
