In the second quarter the gross domestic product of the United States grew by 3,9 percent. The figure has been revised upwards with respect to the interim estimate, which had calculated an increase of 3,7%, while the preliminary estimate for July was +2,7%.
The final correction was released today by the US Department of Commerce. Analysts were expecting an average of +3,7 percent confirmation.
The US economy is therefore once again growing at a faster pace than in the first quarter, when the GDP had registered +0,6%, while in the fourth quarter of last year it had grown by 2,2%.
Against this backdrop, yesterday Fed chair Janet Yellen said “it will probably be appropriate to raise Fed Funds rates later this year and continue to raise short-term rates as the employment rate improves and inflation is approaching the 2 percent target”.
