The Turin Industrial Union e 87 associated companies have signed the Charter for equal opportunities and equality at work. President Marco Gay led the adhesion to the document promoted in Italy by Sodalitas Foundation and inspired by the Diversity Charters of the European Commission.
The initiative, which involves a total of 16 thousand employees, is based on the idea that the diversity is a strategic resource for growth, competitiveness and social cohesion. The Charter commits companies to promote a inclusive work environment, free from discrimination based on gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, ethnic origin, religion and personal opinions. Adopting it means equipping oneself with a manifesto of values and a guide to integrate the ESG principles in company policies, with concrete actions: equal opportunities at every stage of working life, fair career paths, work-life balance measures, periodic monitoring and protection tools for employees.
The principles and commitments of the Charter
The Charter promotes “pluralism and inclusive practices as factors of success and competitiveness” and invites companies to:
- define inclusive policies at all organizational levels
- assign specific responsibilities for equal opportunities
- overcoming stereotypes and promoting inclusive careers
- ensure equality in selection, training and growth processes
- train and raise awareness on the value of diversity
- monitor results and disseminate good practices
- protect equal treatment with internal tools
- promote work-life balance also with contractual policies
- communicate the commitment made internally and externally

Comments
“Signing this agreement – he shares Marco Gay – is for us the concrete manifestation of an ethical vision of the role of business that reflects the founding values of our association and the sense of responsibility we feel towards the community. Today is a very significant moment, as the participation of such a high number of businesses highlights the widespread and shared conception of work as a space for personal and social fulfillment, in which each individual must be put in the condition to best express their potential. It is the assumption of a commitment towards the person and their dignity, but also an investment for the future: building more equitable workplaces means actively contributing to the creation of a more cohesive and sustainable society”.
