Unicredit, the capital increase is still uncertain

The green light has not arrived for the operation, which could have taken place today at the meeting between the bank's top management and the shareholder Foundations - In the meeting only a generic assessment of the situation on the markets but (apparently) no other burning issues were addressed - The recapitalization, however, could come in the coming months

Unicredit, the capital increase is still uncertain

A meeting only on the situation of the financial markets. This is the content of today's meeting between the front row of Unicredit managers led by Federico Ghizzoni and the shareholder Foundations according to what emerges from the first rumors. Yet other burning issues are pressing on Unicredit's table which some expected to be at the center of the meeting: an update on the industrial plan expected for November and, consequently, the capital increase chapter, on which the CEO Ghizzoni said that the decision will only come at the end of the year. Capital which, despite pressure from Bank of Italy on the entire banking sector, Ghizzoni deems sufficient for now. The CEO then declared in an interview with the German newspaper Handelsblatt that he does not believe that the current situation of the international financial markets is comparable to the crisis that followed the collapse of Lehman Brothers in 2008.

The strategic plan for 2011 was a topic addressed in the meeting, without, however, any great news. Ghizzoni reiterated that the business plan is being drawn up and that it will be finalized by 2011.
The meeting, a routine meeting that lasted about two hours and had been scheduled for some time, was attended by, among others, Andrea Comba, president of the Crt Foundation, Paolo Biasi, head of the Cariverona Foundation, Gianni Borghi of the Manodori Foundation, Dino De Poli of Cassamarca and Massimo Paniccia of CR Trieste. Fanrizio Palenzona, vice president of Unicredit, and Angelo Miglietta, general secretary of the CRT, were also seen entering the office. However, Miglietta declared that he did not take part in the meeting.
