The organizational revolution continues Unicredit desired by the new CEO, Andrea Orcell. The institute announces in a note that it has created the division Unicredit Italy, which will be autonomous and endowed with full powers on a par with those dedicated to Germany, Central Europe and Eastern Europe. Not only that: it also comes redesigned the first managerial line of each business area and geographical area.

“Today's announcement is another step towards achieving our goal of simplify and reduce the complexity that has characterized our business for too long – explains Orcel – It is the beginning of a process of greater responsibility, which will allow us to unlock all the value inherent in our group, so as to be able to better serve our customers and our communities”.

The creation of Unicredit Italy, which will be led by Niccolò Ubertalli, "underlines not only the importance of our heritage and our roots - continues Orcel - but also the strength of a perfectly integrated pan-European business model, which has no equal".

As for managerial front lines, are all redesigned "to reduce overlapping and complexity - continues the note from Unicredit - while maintaining well-defined control and supervision functions, with the aim of further improving overall efficiency".

The new structure increases the "female presence at Group Executive Committee level (from 15% to 40%)" and introduces "a wider variety of nationalities represented", continues the press release.

The business areas on which the new Unicredit Italia will focus are the following:

  • the Individuals area, led by Barbara Tamburini, which caters to Mass Market, Affluent and Private customers;
  • the Business area, led by Andrea Casini, which manages small, medium and large companies;
  • the Corporate and Investment Banking Italy area (CIB Italia), led by Alfredo De Falco.

Customers are served by two complementary distribution networks of services and products: the physical distribution network guarantees local proximity and relationship services and is organized into seven regions: North West, Lombardy, North East, Central-Northern Italy, Central Italy, Southern Italy and Sicily; the structure dedicated to alternative distribution channels deals with remote channels, Unicredit Direct, buddybank and ATM.

All activities on the German market are led by Michael Diederich as head of Germany and the management board of HVB. Central Europe includes Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia under the leadership of Gianfranco Bisagni. Eastern Europe, led by Teodora Petkova, includes Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania and Serbia.

The chief executive officers of the banks in the individual countries remain unchanged.

"With today's letter from Andrea Orcel to the workers of the Unicredit group, the after Mustier has finally begun - commented the general secretary of the Fabi, Lando Maria Sileoni – even if the new Unicredit management team has been working for a real simplification and better efficiency of the internal organization for some time. It is positive that the new CEO of Unicredit has clearly indicated a path to be tackled not with hypocrisy or bravado, but with healthy realism in respect for those who work in the group and for customers. The coming months will be crucial for the Italian banking sector. It will be necessary to give concrete answers on the subject of commercial pressures, on compliance with the national contract, on smart working, on technological innovation".
