Trieste, Generali first sponsor of the Barcolana

The sailing event, scheduled to start on 14 October, has closed a forty-year partnership with the insurance company – For the next three years, Generali will be the presenting sponsor, accompanying Barcolana in its international development.

The Società Velica di Barcola and Grignano and Assicurazioni Generali have signed an agreement to consolidate the forty-year partnership. For the next three years, Generali will be the presenting sponsor, accompanying Barcolana in its international development. The announcement was made today in Trieste by the president of Barcolana, Mitja Gialuz, together with the president of Assicurazioni Generali, Gabriele Galateri di Genola, during the press conference on the eve of the fiftieth edition of the largest regatta in the world scheduled in Trieste on 14 October, preceded by 400 related events taking place starting from 5 October.

With this agreement, Generali strengthens its support for the event through activities such as internationalization, already started in the last two years, the promotion of links with the local area, sport,
of culture and solidarity. Generali will be alongside Barcolana throughout all the annual activities, supporting the event in the development and consolidation of the projects that have allowed, starting from 2015, the great growth highlighted by the event.

During the press conference, Barcolana presented the calendar of events for the 2018 edition as usual, which counts over four hundred events - almost all with free admission - organized in partnership with local institutions, sponsors and over one hundred associations which in recent months have shared its initiatives dedicated to the sea with Barcolana. "I was there too" will be the leitmotif of the fiftieth edition of the regatta: "celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Barcolana - commented Gialuz - means first of all celebrating the over one hundred thousand sailors who have participated in the regatta throughout its long history : with “I was there too” we want to focus attention on all our protagonists, all the sailors who have participated in the regatta at least once”.

The President of Assicurazioni Generali Galateri di Genola presented the book that Barcolana has created on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary, supported by Generali among the "special initiatives for Barcolana" and published by Giunti, in bookstores from 5 October. Generali also renews the appointment with the Generali CUP, now in its second edition, scheduled for 13 October. The event is dedicated to Generali employees who come to Trieste from all over the world to race aboard the J70 monotypes in a series of regattas that anticipate the spirit of the Barcolana.
