Trenitalia: new regional ticket, everything changes

Starting from 1st August, the ticket for regional trains will change, a revolution with which it will be more difficult for the smartest to travel without a ticket. An inconvenience for those who are in the habit of purchasing multiple travel tickets at the same time to use them at the most appropriate moment, but also a severe blow to evasion.

From today, each ticket will in fact bear the indication of the day of travel and can be used by 23.59 pm on the same date. There will be the possibility to purchase the ticket four months in advance, but the precise date must be indicated. However, starting from the validation, the ticket can be used for the following four hours.

Each traveler will also be able to change the planned travel date. The operation can be performed only once and by 23.59 pm of the day before the one indicated on the ticket. The change will have no cost and can be done at self-service machines and Trenitalia ticket offices. If, on the other hand, the holder decides to change the date through the SisalPay, LisPaga di Lottomatica and SIR Tabaccai points of sale, he will have to pay a cost of 0,50 euro. The ticket can also be exchanged in the travel agency where it was purchased, with a variable commission, at the agency's discretion.

In the event of cancellation of the trip, the refund must be made by 23 pm on the day before the one indicated on the ticket, the mechanism remains unchanged, with a 59% deduction, unless otherwise provided for by the individual fares.

“These innovations – reads a note from FS – will allow Trenitalia to increase the positive effects of the anti-avoidance campaign launched in recent months, with an intensification of controls on the most sensitive lines, both on board the train and in the stations: in 10 months the anti-evasion pool checked over 1 million people”.

Another important change will concern season ticket holders: starting from 1 August it will be possible to show your ticket to the conductor in an electronic version, instead of a paper one, from the screen of your smartphone, tablet or PC.
