Russian fears, but Milan tries to rebound

Unlike the European lists, which were in great pain yesterday, the Eastern and American markets are holding up the impact of fears about the new sanctions on Russia – Apple and Microsoft quarterly reports tonight – Banks suffer in Piazza Affari – Automotive stocks retreat throughout Europe due to the difficulties in emerging markets – Opening Milan tries to rebound.

Russian fears, but Milan tries to rebound

The European stock exchanges are trying to recover after yesterday's negative day. In Milan, the Ftse Mib rose by 0,72% and the Ftse All Share by 0,69%. Well, in particular, Saipem (+2,35%) on the new indiscretions reported by Il Sole 24 Ore with respect to ENI's desire to sell its stake in the company. Azimut (+0,96%) and Enel (+0,93%) also performed well. Fincantieri gains 1,19% after the half-yearly accounts published yesterday evening. On the other hand, Mediaset was weak, falling by 0,19%. Lastly, the debut of Blue Note should be noted, which opened at 3,12 euros, unchanged from the IPO price.

ASIA ON THE RISE. WALL STREET LIMITS LOSSES. BUT THE SANCTIONS IN MOSCOW SCARE EUROPE

Europe is preparing for a "hot" day, dominated by the request for tougher sanctions against Moscow. The tug of war weakens Wall Street but the Bull does not break down.

This morning the Asian price lists at their highest for three and a half years, recorded widespread gains starting from Tokyo +0, 85% which reopened its doors after Marine day, the celebration of the sea. Hong Kong does even better + 1,21%. Moods have lifted after the Malaysian prime minister announced that Ukrainian rebels will hand over the black boxes from the downed plane.

The price of crude oil (105 dollars a Brent), gold (1310 dollars an ounce) was also stable, while the yen fell by 0,1%. The optimism of the Eastern Stock Exchanges reflects the improvements, in the end, of Wall Street which however opened the week with a negative sign: Dow Jones -0,23%, S&P – 0,28%, Nasdaq -0,17%.  

Looking forward to the quarterly Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), e Microsoft, scheduled for tonight, the US Stock Exchange registers the first countermoves of Time Warner anti-Murdoch: the company's board has voted changes that, in practice, prevent the "Shark" and its allies from convening an extraordinary meeting. But the pension funds are protesting.

Netflix, meanwhile, it has surpassed the barrier of 50 million subscribers, of which 36 in the USA. In September, the service will land in France and Germany. After the quarterly, the stock rose by 0,7%.

FLY EFFECT, THE CAR SUFFERS

The European stock exchanges fell in the final session: London -0,31%, Paris -0,7%, Frankfurt -1,11%, Madrid -0,43%. Auto stocks are under fire in Europe (-1,15% the Stoxx for the sector) starting from Peugeot -3,7% after sales declines in emerging markets. Fiat it lost 1,7% within a European sector which fell by 1,15%. Bad too Cnh with -2,55%. Pirelli falls by 1,7%. Piazza Affari is among the worst lists with a drop in the Ftse Mib index of 1,48% to 20.431 points.

The spread between the BTP and the Bund, after falling below 160 basis points during trading, closed at 162 basis points and the differential on the domestic ten-year bond settled at 2,77%. The Moscow Stock Exchange falls for the sixth consecutive day and falls to the lows of the last two and a half months: Micex index -2,91%. 

BANKS IN FALL, BUT FINECO SHINES

The Italian banking index leaves more than 2% in the field against a more modest -0,7% of the European reference basket. The most massive losses concern the Popolari sector: Where's Banca -3,2% Banca Popolare di Milano -3,3% Banca Popolare dell'Emilia Romagna -2,9%.

Il Banco Popolare it lost 2,13% slipping to 11,52 euros. Norges Bank has acquired a 2,087% stake in the cooperative credit institution.

Unicredit lost 2,2%: the stake in the capital of Finecobank (+1,08% to 4,10 euro) fell from 70% to 65,5%, of which 4,5% without a vote. The operation dates back to last July 17 when the two banks announced the exercise of the greenshoe option by the global coordinators of the offer. At the end of the first half of the year, Fineco's funding exceeded two billion.

Intesa Sanpaolo lost 1,9% yesterday. The new Hungarian law on credit in foreign currency will entail a cost of 65 million for the subsidiary Cib Bank. Mediobanca -1,2%.

Monte dei Paschi -1,7%. Banco de Santander has decided to raise the recommendation to Hold from Underweight, confirming the target price at 1,40 euro. Meanwhile, the MontePaschi Foundation has resolved to initiate the liability action against the bodies of the same Foundation which in 2008 joined the capital increase of Banca MontePaschi functional to the operation.

Thump of Banca Carige -4,02%. The latest Consob communications on significant shareholdings revealed that Mediobanca holds a 7,037% shareholding as a borrower in the capital of the Genoese bank.

THE ANTITRUST FINES THE TLC: TELECOM DOWN

Telecom fell by 1,42% to 0,869 euros and the antitrust authority launched four investigations against Vodafone, Wind, Telecom and H3G who allegedly provided mobile phone users with unsolicited and/or unknowingly requested paid services by charging the related amounts on the telephone credit.

Mediaset -0,7%, after Agcom gave the go-ahead on Friday for the licensing of television rights for the Serie A football championship.

AIRPORT TICKETS SUFFER: WDF AND AUTOGRILL

Among the worst blue chips there is also World Duty Free -3,4%. Rest -1,9%. Both weak on fears of a drop in air traffic, the group is present at many airports. Profits up too Salini Impregilo (-5,62% to 3,49 euros). Among industrial companies, Finmeccanica lost 2,5%, Cnh Industrial 2,6%, Prysmian -0,6%, StM unchanged.

Fincantieri trimmed the losses to -0,74% pending the publication of the half-yearly data disclosed in the evening: the company closed the first half of 2014 with a net profit of 33 million euros, stable on the same period of 2013.

POSITIVE UTILITIES AND MAIRE

Utilities stand out among the stocks in positive territory. Snam + 0,2% A2A -0,8%. Up too Maire Tecnimont +1,4% after the announcement of a memorandum of understanding with the Pakistani Fatima Group Principals (FGP) and Midwest Fertilizer Corporation (MFC) for the construction of a new MFC fertilizer megacomplex in the United States, in a project estimated at $1,6 billion.

Soul Holding + 2,2% Moleskine + 2%. BE gains 2,7% on its debut day on the Star. A broker underlines how the transition to the new segment can bring greater visibility and liquidity to the title.
