Tesla unveils Model 3 electric car for $35

It will have acceleration from 0 to 100 in less than 6 seconds and an EPA certified range of almost 346 km – Orders boom in the launch phase – Deliveries will begin in 2017 in the US and then: at the beginning of 2018 it will be Europe's turn

Tesla raises the curtain on its new electric car model. It's called Model 3 and costs 35 dollars excluding incentives (equal to around 30.700 euros), will have acceleration from 0 to 100 in less than 6 seconds and an EPA certified range of almost 346 km, just under the distance between Rome and Bologna.

“We are facing a CO2 record, the temperature has risen by 2 degrees – said Elon Musk, creator and CEO of Tesla Motors – It is important to accelerate the transition towards sustainable transport, essential for the future of the world”.

As for the dimensions, the Model 3 is smaller than the previous Model S, but it can accommodate up to five adults and a double trunk, front and rear.

Other standard features of the new car are Autopilot (the semi-autonomous driving system based on a front camera, radar and sensors), compatibility with Superchargers and the panoramic roof.

In the launch phase, the success of the Model 3 was immediate: Musk confirmed that orders were more than 115 in 24 hours and within hours of the presentation there are already 132 bookings, many of which are online and virtually sight unseen. In part, the boom is explained by the fact that in the United States only the first 200 customers will be able to access the $7.500 incentive provided by the government.

As for deliveries, they will begin in 2017 in the USA and then, at the beginning of 2018, in Europe (where production will start at the end of next year) and in Asia.
