On the occasion of '8 March, International Women's Day, Terna renews its commitment to nurturing female talent, promoting initiatives that foster women's access, growth, and professional development within the group.
Through a strategy based on the principles of merit, respect and inclusion, the company led by Josephine of Foggia creates concrete opportunities to strengthen the presence and role of women, supporting a culture that rewards skills.
“March 8th is an opportunity to reflect on what we are doing in Terna for the gender equality, from the moment of hiring to the subsequent professional path. It all starts from a simple principle: skills and merit guide decisions,” says Di Foggia, CEO and General Manager of Terna. “Over the past three years, we have worked to make our processes more structured and transparent: equal access conditions, rigorous criteria for performance evaluation and career development, and attention to work-life balance. The data tells us that we are going in the right direction and that promoting female talent is a strategic factor for the group's growth. It is our way of being, a responsibility that guides Terna's decisions.”

La Terna's People Strategy, pillar of the Industrial Plan 2024-2028, places people at the center, fostering a cultural transformation that spans every stage of the professional journey: from selection to performance evaluation, all the way to managerial growth. This approach has also been supported by a major project by the group's Academy, which, over the past two years, has provided over 30.000 hours of training on "inclusive language" and "breaking stereotypes: acting with respect," involving the entire company workforce.
Consistent with its role, Terna pays particular attention to STEM disciplines, which are essential for supporting the energy and digital transition. Of the group's more than 7.100 employees, 2.300 have a STEM degree, with a growing female presence among new hires. Externally, the company has also launched and consolidated numerous projects dedicated to promoting female scientific skills. Among these initiatives, Boost Program with Sistech, which offers scholarships to refugee women, the partnership with Elis – Role Model, the collaboration with Valore D and “Girls@Polimi – Scholarships for future engineers”.
The focus on women's skills is part of the group's broader Diversity & Inclusion policies, which include certification and the 2024–2026 Strategic Plan for Gender Equality, based on inclusive recruitment and leadership, fair compensation, training, and awareness-raising to promote an increasingly inclusive and respectful work environment.
In addition to its development and training policies, Terna has continued to strengthen its projects supporting family and work-life balance. The Group promotes flexible work models, an improved smart working agreement, initiatives to support parenting, widespread welfare tools, and services dedicated to psychological, physical, and organizational well-being, including for family members.
Among the new initiatives, the recent opening of the Spazio Nuvola (Cloud Space) at the Rome office is noteworthy. It is designed to support mothers returning to work while breastfeeding. This space was created to foster a better balance for mothers who, while returning to the office, continue breastfeeding. The space is a pilot project in Rome, potentially extending to other offices throughout the region.
Among the Group's established family support initiatives is the company nursery at the Group's headquarters, MiniWatt, dedicated to employees' children. Additionally, all parents of children aged 0 to 3 years old nationwide receive a financial contribution of up to 60% of the nursery's tuition.
