Terna sets a record in 2022 with over 2,5 billion in investments

Terna closed 2022 with a new one record company.

During the year it cleared 29 interventions aimed at developing the national electricity grid for a value overall over 2,5 billion euros of investments.

These results more than doubled 2021 results when for the first time in the company's history, led by Stefano Donnarumma, had exceeded one billion investments.

Interventions on the national territory

Il main contribution comes from green light to the East branch of the Tyrrhenian Link, the section of the submarine power line which will connect Campania and Sicily worth more than 1,9 billion euros (total investment of approx 3,7 billion of Euro). The submarine cable is expected to be fully operational in 2028. The start of construction of the cable was achieved thanks to the strong collaboration between Terna, regions and ministerial structures: for this project, in fact, only eleven months have passed between the start of the procedure and the definitive approval.

Another relevant intervention in 2022 was the “Dolo-Camin” power line, which will be implemented between the provinces of Venice and Padua. The line, 16,5 km of 380 kV underground cable, will make it possible to demolish almost 32 km of overhead power lines involving seven Municipalities.

Also noted are the interventions for over 70 million euros foreseen in South quadrant of Rome, three new underground cable lines for a total of over 30 km and a new electrical substation, and the 65 million euro connection Livigno-Premadio, essential for increasing the reliability of the power supply and the resilience of the Lombardy grid in view of the Olympic and Paralympic Games “Milan-Cortina 2026”.

In general it was the Lombardia the region with the highest number of new works (seven interventions), for approx 130 million euro. Following there are Campania with five interventions, Sicilia e Autonomous Province of Bolzano with four. Authorized eight new Power Stations, including two conversions of the Tyrrhenian Link.

The interventions confirm the key role of Terna as enabler of the energy transition.
