Terna, electricity demand falls: -2,8% in October

According to data collected by Terna, the demand for electricity stood at 26,4 billion kWh in October, down by 2,8% on an annual basis – 83,1% of the energy comes from national production – In the first ten months of the year, demand fell by 3,6% on the year – At a territorial level, demand is declining everywhere.

Terna, electricity demand falls: -2,8% in October

The demand for electricity in Italy is falling. According to data collected by Terna, in October demand stood at 26,4 billion kWh, down by 2,8% on an annual basis. Of the 26,4 billion kWh required in October 2013, 47% are distributed in the North, 29% in the Center and 24% in the South.

Territorially, the demand for electricity fell everywhere: -3,2% in the North and -2,3% in both the Center and the South.

83,1% of the demand was satisfied through national production, while the remaining quota (16,9%) through the balance of energy exchanged with foreign countries. In detail, net national production (22,1 billion kWh) is down by 2,4% compared to October 2012.

Among the sources, those of photovoltaic production (+2,3%), water (+2,1%) and geothermal (+1,3%) are growing, while those of wind production show a decline (-18,6%) and thermoelectric (-3,0%). In economic terms, the seasonally adjusted change in electricity demand in October 2013 compared to the previous month was positive by 0,9%. In the first ten months of 2013, the demand for electricity decreased by 3,6% on an annual basis.
