Tap: first gas in Greece, the pipeline is advancing

Tap (Trans Adriatic Pipeline) entered the first gas in the section of the pipeline between the Maritza River and the Kipoi Compressor Station in Greece: kicked off the phase of pipeline testing which will verify the security of the infrastructure and compliance with international security standards. The introduction of methane into the pipeline is another fundamental step for the start of deliveries in Europe of Shah Deniz II field gas.

After testing, the gas will be progressively introduced into the other sections Greek of the pipeline and then into Albania and Italy in the next months. With 3500 km of project value of 40 billion from the Caspian Sea to Europe, Tap will offer European countries direct access to natural gas at competitive costs.

John Haynes, project director of Tap, states: «After more than three and a half years since the beginning of the construction of the pipeline, with 46 million hours worked in complete safety behind it and 128 million kilometers traveled without any major accidents, we are proud to have the pipeline progressively ready for complex testing phase.

"The coming months will be crucial for the pipeline to be tested and progressively put into operation to be operational and to start gas deliveries in October 2020. At the same time we are preparing for commercial operations as a Gas Transport Operator and Independent Transport Operator" he said. declared Luca Schieppati, managing director of Tap.
