T-Frutta, an app to save on groceries

By the summer, the new service via smartphone will be available throughout Italy, which provides cash-back when you buy branded products on sale from large-scale retailers.

T-Frutta, an app to save on groceries

Save by shopping. From today, T-Frutta is also available in the Parma, Reggio Emilia, Ferrara and provinces, the app that introduced the cash-back mechanism in Italy and allows consumers to save money when they buy branded products on sale at the large distribution. Basically, the consumer sees the products on sale through the app, buys them at the supermarket, photographs the receipt, sends it to T-Frutta and receives a partial refund.

Money is credited quickly and easily – to a bank account, PayPal or by check – and can be spent freely, with no constraints or obligations to spend again or convert into vouchers. The app can be downloaded for free from the App Store or Google Play. T-Frutta uses a proprietary and patented system based on a unique technology for recognizing the data contained in the so-called "talking" till receipts (those that contain the information on the products purchased).

The service, launched exactly one year ago by UBIQ (a start-up born from a spin-off of the University of Parma and acquired by SIA at the beginning of 2016), is already available in Bologna, Milan, Modena, Rome, Turin and in Monza-Brianza area. After Parma, Reggio Emilia and Ferrara, T-Frutta will be progressively extended to the entire national territory by the end of the summer.

Twelve months after its launch, there are over 47 active users, more than 385 receipts managed, for a cash-back disbursed to consumers of over 486 euros. T-Frutta is an innovative tool that fits into the couponing market, which in Italy amounts to around 70 million euros and is constantly growing.

"With this initiative - commented Davide Pellegrini, co-founder of T-frutta - we intend to address on the one hand consumers more oriented towards the use of digital tools such as apps, wallets, mobile payments and interested in personalized promotions, on the other brands looking for new ways of contacting and retaining customers.”

About 25 consumer goods companies have already used T-Frutta. These include Unilever, Barilla, Ferrero, San Pellegrino, Bolton Food, Lavazza, Grandi Salumifici Italiani, Heineken, Nivea, Beiersdorf, Conserve Italia, ParmaReggio, Monini, Ponti , Branca, Campari, Fater, Rana, Alpro, Procter & Gamble, Auricchio, Yakult, A&D and Industrie Cartarie Tronchetti.

After downloading T-Frutta for free from the App Store or Google Play and installing it on your smartphone, you can see the promotions on products that save you money. Purchases can be made in all stores that use receipts showing the details of the products purchased. Then, the receipt is photographed and sent via the App to T-Frutta which, after reading the information contained in the receipt, credits the money, which the consumer can receive with the chosen method and spend how and where he wants.
