"His majesty the wheat": maxi-financing for cereal companies of "La Molisana"

A loan of over 9 million euros to support the growth and development of four companies in the "La Molisana" cereal supply chain operating in Molise and Puglia.

The objective of the project called "Sua maestà il grano", in which Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, Intesa Sanpaolo, and MIPAAF contribute is the creation of a specific supply chain of high-end durum wheat to obtain high-quality productions and increase, in a context of maximum traceability and food safety, Italian productions with particular protein and nutritional characteristics.

"Made in Italy - explains Giuseppe Ferro, managing director of La Molisana spa - works very well if the products are of the highest quality, starting from the raw material, wheat in our case, passing through the latest generation technology for drying of pasta, to arrive on the shelves and then at the table”.

Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and Intesa Sanpaolo participated in the project with a loan of 3,75 million euro each, in addition to contributions from the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies and the Puglia Region. The main objectives of the project concern the improvement of the level of competitiveness and the economic sustainability of basic food producers, the modernization of the production factors of the supply chain, the higher quality of the final product and a real environmental sustainability.

The ultimate goal of the operation is to make investments of national importance which, starting from agricultural production, are developed in the various segments of the agri-food chain, based on associative and statutory conferral bonds.

Paolo Calcagnini, Deputy General Manager of CDP comments: “We believe it is essential to support our country's strategic supply chains, in particular those operating in the agri-food sector, to continue to accompany the growth and sustainable development of Made in Italy excellence in the world. With this operation we confirm our closeness to the South and to those companies that demonstrate great ability to combine sustainability and tradition, fundamental levers for successfully projecting themselves on the national and foreign markets".

“Being attentive in acknowledging and responding to requests from the agri-food sector is one of the objectives of the new management that our Group has dedicated to agribusiness. A strategic mission in the light of the economic and cultural importance that this sector has for our country. – underlines Renzo Simonato, head of the Intesa Sanpaolo Agribusiness Department -.

The financing of the La Molisana cereal supply chain is an important example of teamwork between the public and private sectors to support, accompany and enhance the excellence of our Made in Italy. All of this contributes to making our companies even more resilient and competitive, in a context in which the ability to be at the forefront also on the issue of sustainability cannot be ignored".
