Money and hiring: the combination of the renewal of public employee contracts and the pressure from ministries and local authorities at the end of the term to obtain new personnel will present a steep cost to the Treasury, as is emerging from the last stages of the discussion on the budget law at the Senate.
On the salary front, each public employee will receive, at the end of the contract renewal expected before Christmas, a one-off payment of 580 euros to compensate for the arrears.
But the biggest game for public finances is played on new hires. The expansion of the turnover in local authorities, decided by the spring maneuver, and the start of the maxi-generational relay in the PA will lead to new entries in 2018 of the order of 80 new units, not counting recruitments in the school sector.
Some needs of the PA are certainly objective but the wind of the elections has never been an ally of budgetary discipline and that is what is happening this time too, without distinction of political colour.
