Sustainability: Ubi Banca signs the Assisi Manifesto

The UBI Banca Group adheres to the Manifesto of Assisi: a multilateral programmatic document, conceived to promote the development of an economy on a human scale, with which it shares the sensitivity and objectives. With the initiative, signed by Letizia Moratti, Chairman of the Board of Directors, the bank reaffirms its commitment to pursuing a balanced action between carrying out its function in the economy and convinced attention to the issues of economic, environmental and social sustainability .

“The Manifesto reminds us of a responsibility that as protagonists of the economic system it is our duty to continue to assume, and is in harmony with the action that UBI has been undertaking for some time to create shared and sustainable value” he states Letizia Moratti, President of UBI Banca and among the signatories of the Manifesto. "Furthermore, environmental protection cannot fail to consider the explicit reference to the human dimension and its defense: an intent that distinguishes this initiative and whose importance can only strengthen its action".

UBI Banca has been actively involved in the promotion of sustainable economic, social and environmental development, through a range of projects that include Social Bonds, social impact loans, a comprehensive plan of activities to strengthen the financial literacy level of young people, Green Bonds and Corporate Welfare services also made available to SMEs.

From April 2012 to January 2020 the UBI Group issued 97 UBI Community Social Bonds, subscribed by over 40.000 customers and for a value exceeding 1,1 billion euro. The activity allowed the donation of more than 5,3 million euros as a donation. In addition, plafonds have been activated for loans of over 21 million euro intended for consortia, businesses and social cooperatives.

Social impact loans granted in optics pay for successes or pay for results, are disbursed against economically sustainable investments promoted by profit and non-profit operators, linked to projects developed in the name of innovation and social and economic development.

Within the financial education activities UBI Banca is the promoter of a structured program of initiatives, created in collaboration with FEduF – Foundation for Financial Education and Savings. The program has involved around 46.900 young people in the last three years. A permanent financial education and social inclusion table has also been set up, in collaboration with FEduF and the Triulza Foundation, which involves operators in the Third Sector.

UBI Banca, in April 2019, issued a Green Bond for an amount of 500 million, subscribed by international institutional investors. The issue, under the Group's EMTN Programme, was carried out within the context of a broader Framework - drawn up in accordance with the guidelines issued by the ICMA - which, in addition to the Green Bonds, also includes the possibility of issuing Social and Sustainable Bonds.

UBI Banca was also the first Italian banking institution to offer a corporate welfare service on the market, with an innovative strategic vision that arises from its being a bank with strong territorial connotations, attentive to the needs of businesses, families and communities, always committed to promoting the development of the Third Sector. The UBI Welfare offer is aimed at all companies, from the largest to the less structured ones and SMEs. To spread the culture of welfare, UBI has entered into numerous partnerships with local employers' and trade associations, not only belonging to Confindustria, throughout Italy.
