Smart working: against expensive energy, the Municipality of Milan proposes it for every Friday. Limits also for lighting

Expected next week a provision to implement the decision, with the agreement of the unions. From Trento to Palermo, other cities are also studying solutions

Smart working: against expensive energy, the Municipality of Milan proposes it for every Friday. Limits also for lighting

As was the case for the pandemic, also dear-energy leads to change and in some cases improve the behavior of workers and citizens. The Mayor of the municipality of Milan Beppe Sala, which foresees an increase in costs of about 60 million euros for bills and heating, has proposed a plan to contain them: on the one hand by improving the smart workingon the other hand improving the illumination.
The employees of the municipality of Milan are already partially experiencing it smart working for 8 days a month, shared by the unions and Palazzo Marino, but now the employees could agree to be absent from the PA building all together, on Friday of each week, in order to save gas and electricity.

Expected a decision next week

Will probably be taken next week a measure - which could be a council resolution - to implement this decision immediately. However, the instrument has not yet been decided. There shouldn't be any hitches, even the unions are in favor. However, it should be specified whether on Fridays of smart working whether or not they are included in the package of days already defined or if they are added.
Milan is also working to intervene on the lighting as well
Sala also introduced another point on which the Lombard capital is working, i.e. the Christmas lights, which there will be so much that there is already a tender underway, but with some attention: "They will be contained, with LEDs, perhaps with timetables a little reduced. But I think that the illuminations must remain”, explained the mayor Beppe Sala. In general in Milan it is private individuals who take care of it, and they shouldn't weigh too much on the municipal budget.
Still on the lighting front, another hypothesis in the field is that, in collaboration with the merchants, of switching off the shop windows first.

Public transport will not be stopped – There is no risk that public transport will stop due to expensive energy and another good news for citizens is that, at least this year, the public transport ticket will not increase. An alarm that in the past few hours had come from the mayor of Turin, Stefano Lo Russo, who was also struggling with expensive bills and for whom he did not hide his fear of having to intervene on public transport routes as well.

But Milan is not the only city to mobilize, from north to south the municipalities and local authorities are thinking of strategies to save energy in addition to those already prescribed by the government.

Smart working also in the Lazio Region – Employees of the Lazio Region will also continue to work in smart working and the lighting in the offices will in any case be reduced, with the early closure of some structures or of those offices which have no contact with the public and which do not supply essential services. Then there is the decrease in the heating temperature as already announced by the Government with the arrival of the winter season.

The lights go out in Naples – In Naples, on the other hand, the Municipality is considering reducing the lighting of the municipal buildings and reorganizing them to meet the high bills. Meanwhile, the mayor, Gaetano Manfredi, has renewed his invitation to the Government "to support families and above all small entrepreneurs against expensive energy which is already causing enormous economic damage".
In Palermo there is not yet a real savings plan, but the Municipality has already entrusted a group of experts with all the assessments of the case "so that we do not act with improvisation and panic, sometimes even to the detriment of city safety" , commented the mayor, Roberto Lagalla.

In the province of Trento, on the other hand, it is already estimated what savings the measures implemented for the administration offices and investee companies could lead to. Here, among other things, the heating will be switched off early on Friday at 13 and the use of stoves and electronic equipment will be prohibited. For an expected saving of 20% on an estimated cost of 25 million euros.
