School, contract signed: increases between 80 and 100 euros

Government and trade unions have signed the new contract for schools, universities and research, which will lead an average increase of 80-100 euros in workers' pay slips.

The announcement came via Twitter from the Minister of Public Administration, Marianna Madia:

The agreement applies to the three-year period 2016-2018 and concerns 1.191.694 Guests, of which over one million in schools alone, 53.000 in universities (excluding universities and university teachers), 24 in research institutions and 9.500 in Afam (Higher artistic, musical and dance education).

The workers will be recognized the salary increase foreseen by theagreement of 30 November 2016 between the Government and the trade unions. An equalization intervention is also envisaged, which mainly affects initial qualifications.

The contract also assigns to teachers further financial recognition which brings the average salary increase to 96 euros per month for i school teachers (increases range from 80,40 euros to 110) and 105 euros per month for Afam teachers.

For Ata staff of schools (administrative, technical and auxiliary) the average increase is 84,5 euros (from a minimum of 80 to 89 euros), while for the University amounts to 82 euros, per researchers and technologists at 125 euros, for theresearch administrative area at 92 euros and for Asl at 118 euro.

For the lowest salary brackets, the 80 euro bonus.

Furthermore, the new contract provides for the negotiation of the criteria on the basis of which to determine the fees to enhance the merit of the teachers, without prejudice to the assignment procedure. Thus, the so-called "bonus" for teachers, established by law 107 of 2015, becomes fully operational.

To guarantee the principle of didactic continuity, the teachers will remain for at least three years on the assigned and requested educational institution.

For the protection of students - and, one might think, also in the light of recent news events - they are foreseen disciplinary measures for teachers who misuse IT communication channels or social media to relate to the boys. Not only that: "Teachers who violate the trust granted to them, by engaging in behavior or harassment of a sexual nature towards their students - specifies the ministry - will be fired".

"It is an important turning point for the world of school, research, university and higher artistic and musical training - said the general secretary of the CISL, Annamaria Furlan – But it is also a positive sign for the future of our country, in a season in which we need to bet on the training system and on young people. We are very satisfied, because it is a contract that marks the end of an incredible nine-year stalemate. A renewal that represents an act of great "political" value for the implications it will have for one million two hundred thousand Italian workers who are entrusted with a very delicate social role".
