Salini Impregilo, maxi order in the USA

Salini Impregilo has been awarded a $580 million joint venture contract with Lane Construction Corporation. The contract concerns the construction of the Northeast Boundary Tunnel (NEBT) in Washington DC

This large, deep tunnel will increase the capacity of the city's existing sewer system and reduce the frequency, strength and impact of flooding, while improving water quality on the Anacostia River.

Salini Impregilo has a 30% stake in the joint venture, while the remaining 70% is held by SA Healy, which in turn is part of Lane. The client is the District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC Water).

The work is the main part of the "Clean Rivers" project in the American capital. The tunnel will run between 15 and 48 meters deep and be over 8.220 meters long, from Robert F. Kennedy Stadium to the intersection of Rhode Island Avenue NW and 6th Street NW. Will cut off frequently flooded areas along Rhode Island Avenue NW.

In the event of flooding, the tunnel will channel flows from the sewer system and managed by the diversion plants and transmit them to DC Water's Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant. The NEBT project also includes the construction of ventilation control systems, storm water drainage systems and green areas. Once connected to the other tunnels of the Clean Rivers project, the NEBT will reduce the volume of raw water and wastewater discharged into the Anacostia River by 98% and the possibility of flooding in nearby areas by 50% to 7% per year .

The works will begin at the beginning of September 2017, to be completed by mid-2023, two years in advance of the provisions of the Consent Decree. Salini Impregilo and SA Healy are also working on another part of the Clean Rivers Project, the Anacostia River Tunnel.

Today, mid-morning, the Salini Impregilo share on the Stock Exchange gained 1,5%, to 3,024 euros.
