Rome, art enters Rebibbia

An educational program for guests of the Rebibbia prison with lessons to get to know the museum sites "within the walls".

Rome, art enters Rebibbia

Free to go and meet Art. Some guests of the Rebibbia Prison House will have the opportunity to savor the charm of the Ara Pacis in person and live and go back through the centuries to the time of Augustus thanks to the project "L'ARTE DENTRO" - an educational program that has obtained the Patronage of the Chamber of Deputies, promoted by Roma Capitale, Department of Cultural Growth - Capitolina Superintendency for Cultural Heritage in collaboration with Zètema Progetto Cultura.

As permitted by article 21, co. 4bis, Law no. 354/75 (granted by the Surveillance Magistrate on the proposal of the Penitentiary Directorate) students are allowed to visit and interact with the museum sites studied and known during intramoenia lessons.

Tuesday 6 June 2017, starting at 18.30, the students of "The Art inside” – together with Erminia Manfredi, Nino's wife and testimonial – will be accompanied on a guided tour of the exhibition “Spartaco. Slaves and masters in Rome”, conceived by Claudio Parisi Presicce and Orietta Rossini and on display until 17 September 2017. Thanks to a team of archaeologists, set designers, directors and architects, the exhibition restores the complexity of the world of slaves in ancient Rome starting with the last major revolt led by the Thracian slave and gladiator Spartacus, between 73 and 71 BC

After an aperitif break in the foyer, students will then be offered the opportunity to attend, at 20.15 pm, a “The Altar as it was”, the immersive and multi-sensory visit of the Ara Pacis. A unique opportunity to admire the first systematic intervention to enhance the cultural heritage of Rome, reproposed in an even more engaging version thanks to the integration of computer graphics, virtual and augmented reality.

In a story that combines history and technology, "L'Ara com'era" is the first systematic enhancement in augmented and virtual reality of the cultural heritage of Rome, specifically one of the most important masterpieces of Roman art, built between 13 and 9 BC to celebrate the Peace established by Augustus on the territories of the empire. Launched on 14 October 2016, the innovative story about the Ara Pacis and the origins of Rome has been further enhanced since 20 January 2017: two new points of interest in Virtual Reality, which combine live film footage, 3D reconstructions and computer graphics, allow a complete immersion in the ancient northern Campo Marzio where it is possible to witness the first virtual reality reconstruction of a Roman sacrifice. An implementation that enriches the narrative and creates a deeper emotional impact with the audience. Visitors are catapulted back into the past to relive it from a privileged position. Immersed in a 360° environment, they can admire the Ara Pacis as it rediscovers its original colors: a "magic" made possible by an experimental study carried out by the Capitoline Superintendency for Cultural Heritage over the course of more than a decade which led to a hypothetical reconstruction but with the greatest possible approximation. Color is not the only surprise to welcome visitors, who can 'float' in flight on the altar, glide over the Campo Marzio and witness the sacrifice, performed by real actors, always remaining at the center of the scene.
