Energy saving, that's how it goes in Italy

Enea, the national agency for new technologies, energy and sustainable economic development, underlines in its first "Energy Efficiency Report" that in 2010 alone the energy savings achieved amounted to 47.800 GWh/year, a result higher than the set goals.

Energy saving, that's how it goes in Italy

An overall picture of Italian policies for energy efficiency and an analysis of the results already obtained by our country in terms of energy saving. All of this is contained in the first "Energy Efficiency Report" published by Enea, the National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development.

The criterion of efficiency has now become "one of the cornerstones on which our energy strategy is based - underlined Giovanni Lelli, commissioner of Enea - to reduce both demand and dependence on supplies and has allowed Italy to achieve excellent results, in line with European energy guidelines and policies. To maintain this trend in the next few years, new interventions and actions will be needed to guide investments and influence the behavior of companies, the Public Administration and citizens".

The Report analyzes and evaluates the regulatory instruments in force in Italy from 2007 to 2010, the year in which the energy savings achieved amounted to 47.800 GWh/year. A result that goes far beyond the objectives set by the 2007 Energy Efficiency Action Plan (Paee), which envisaged energy savings of approximately 35.658 GWh/year.
