Saving energy at Christmas: 5 rules to follow

Save energy keeping the magic of the house at home Christmas? With the right precautions it can be done. The Italian comparator of the energy sector Facile.it has drawn up a handbook that can do save up to 22% of bill costs during the holiday season.

In everyone's imagination, the Christmas atmosphere is fueled by two symbols: the crib and Christmas tree. Both elements are embellished by lights that have taken on ever more complicated mechanisms over the years. There are all kinds of them: intermittent ones, fixed ones, the one with Christmas melodies, those with multicolor LEDs and monochromatic ones. Facile.it tells us that the choice of alternating light can certainly save up to 40% more than fixed lights. Also, of course, you can save even more if you turn off the lights on the tree, the crib and the balconies during the night.

The beauty of Christmas also lies in large family gatherings. We meet to meet again, to eat together, to celebrate, to play. On days when there will be many people at home, the advice is to lower the temperature by even just three degrees heating thermostat of your home. In this way it will be possible to save 10% of the cost of heating between Christmas Eve and Epiphany.

During the Christmas period, the big binges are the masters. But tell the truth: you will also put on the table something that you have prepared in the previous days and that you have kept in your freezer. Don't decide at the last moment to put frozen foods on the table. Given that we will spend many hours in the home, if we have to defrost it is better to do it naturally and not with the help of the microwave oven. You will save up to 13% more.

Even the appliances used for cooking can make a difference. Not only at the table but also in the wallet. Try and use the pressure cooker and steamer, for example, they can reduce the gas consumption needed to cook the same dish by 66%. And you can save, in terms of electricity, even if you cook several things at the same time in your electric oven.

Finally, the tv. It often stays on but none of us is intent on looking at it while we are at the table with our family members or while we play the classic Christmas bingo or the merchant at the fair. The advice is simple but not trivial: turn it off. You will certainly save very little (3 euros) but it will be even more engaging to be together with your family.
