Pension reform, Fornero: yes in comparison with the unions, but time is running out

On pensions, “the Government is preparing, and will probably be announced within a few days, an incisive reform, but which respects the criterion of equity between generations". The intervention will then be inspired by the European principle of "flexicurity” (flexibility and security). This was announced by the new Minister of Labour, Elsa Frnero, which spoke today at the EU Council for Social Affairs.

As for the confrontation with the social partners, the minister said he was available, but explained that “it is about finding a window of opportunity, because we have a time constraint that we must respect". In fact, the maneuver is expected to arrive in the CDM on Monday 5 December.

Fornero then confirmed his intention to extend the “pro rata contribution method to everyone, even to those who have so far pulled out”. There will be "perhaps the acceleration of some paths of adaptation, for example of theretirement age for women, which had already been adopted by the previous government”.
