The new social safety nets will already start this year and will be fully operational in 2015, not in 2017, as was said in the last meeting between the government and the social partners. The Minister of Labor said, Elsa Fornero, during the discussion table underway at the ministry from this afternoon. This is the decisive week for the labor reform, which the government aims to close between 21 and 23 March.
"The transitional period of the reform and the change of the shock absorber system will be shortened - said Minister Fornero - we will start in 2012 and will be fully operational in 2015".
The goal of the reform as a whole is to permanently reduce "the level of unemployment, bringing it to the structural 4-5%. It is an "essential building block for growth" and to reach the goal it is necessary "a strong involvement of the South".
