All construction sites of the new line AV Naples – Bari enter the implementation phase. The works on the Hirpinia-Orsara and Orsara-Bovino sections were announced by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (FS Italiane Group), which will begin respectively on 5 and 10 August, completing the list of lots currently under construction. The interventions have a total cost of 5,8 billion euros, also financed with funds from the Pnrr. By 2027, upon completion of the works, travel from Puglia to Napoli e Roma they will be faster.
In detail, the completion of these two sections will allow for a further one reduction of travel times between the capital of Campania and Puglia and the increase in the capacity of passenger and freight trains on the line: it will in fact be possible to go from Bari to Naples in 2 hours, up to Rome in 3 hours and connect Lecce and Taranto to the capital in 4 hours. Before this date, underlines RFI, progressive reductions in travel times are in any case envisaged, thanks to the phased opening of the new stretches of line, starting with the new direct connection in 2024.
Work on the Hirpinia-Orsara-Bovino sections
As for the traffic Hirpinia-Orsara, Apennine pass route, the interventions envisage the construction of a tunnel about 27 kilometers long out of a total of 28 of the new line. The works were entrusted to the Hirpinia Orsara AV Consortium, for a total investment by RFI of approximately 1,53 billion euro.
Trafficking works Orsara-Bovino, about 12 kilometers long which extends almost entirely in tunnels mainly in the Apulian territory, will be carried out by the Consorzio Bovino – Orsara AV, with a total investment by RFI of 561 million euros.
The two consortia are made up of companies Webuild Italy - Feminine Pizzarotti - Italy participations.
