“Net of immediate tactical choices, the key point is that the banking system must transform. Other than the polemics of the opposition, instrumental and ideological. There will be in the future fewer branches and more digitisation, less retail and more investment banks”. This is what the premier writes Matteo Renzi in his latest enews.
“Not everything happens tomorrow morning – continues the Prime Minister -, mind you. But the path is this. And as always, the task of politics should be to foresee it and know how to accompany it. The future, we know, belongs to those who anticipate it, not those who chase it. We will try from the next few days”.
In any case, concludes Renzi, "this is not the place to go back to talking about banks: we will do so after the Council of Ministers has approved further measures to consolidate the system and encourage the transformation and merger processes". The next meeting of the CDM is scheduled for today, Wednesday 10 February, at 21.
